Crabgrass Control
Chemical Control
Apply a pre emergent to keep crabgrass from
germinating. Crab grass will begin to germinate when temperatures reach
about 55 degrees and stay there for more than three days.
Crab grass killer can harm other vegetation so
use caution with these products.
Natural Control
The easiest and safest way to control
crabgrass is to maintain a healthy lawn. Do not cut your lawn too short.
If you do, the crabgrass will thrive because of the extra sunlight which
the soil will receive.
Also, apply fertilizer to your lawn at the
correct times of year. This will allow your turf to grow more vigorously
and thus keep the crabgrass from spreading.
Finally, rinse your lawnmower after mowing
infested areas. Crabgrass spreads by seed so you want to remove the seed
from the mower to keep from spreading it to other areas.
